A dream home getaway in a style "not contemporary, not
log cabin, but kind of ski lodge, informal but elegant" was what our clients
envisioned when they purchased land on a mountain ridge in West Virginia.
Materials that fit into the context were desired, with an emphasis on the
spectacular view.
Site constraints included steep drop-offs on one side
and rocky cliffs on the other limiting the size and configuration of the house
and requiring the contractor to blast tons of rock from the site before
construction.
The design solution includes a natural stone exterior
and hip roof blending this spacious home into its mountain environment. When
entering, one's eye immediately passes under the second floor bridge through
the two-story Great Room to the spectacular view over the cliffs beyond.
The timeless style and quality crafts-manship of this
home met the client's goals.
